Mississippi Relay provides a full telephone interpreting service between people who can hear and those who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, deaf-blind or speech-disabled. Communications Assistants (CAs) have computers that enable them to hear the voice users as well as read the signals from the TTY users. CapTel services are also provided in Mississippi!
The service is available for Mississippians 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There are no restrictions imposed on MS Relay calls. Confidentiality for relay users and CAs is assured by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Ruling. Mississippi Relay also offers an Equipment Distribution Program. CapTel is for individuals who can nott hear well, but want to use their own voice, people who wear hearing aids or anyone with hearing loss. When using a CapTel phone, the other party's spoken conversation is displayed word-for-word (almost simultaneously) in an easy-to-read window.
